About Mercedes-AMG®

Mercedes-AMG®, also known as AMG®, is the name for high-performance Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The brand has roots that go back to the 1960s when motorsport and engineering gurus Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher worked on the 300 SE racing engine at Diamler-Benz. Though the company discontinued motorsports activities, the duo went on to perfect the machinery. They grew into Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach (AMG®) and championed the award-winning AMG® Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8. AMG® later supplied performance technology to Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Every AMG® vehicle goes beyond a hand-crafted V8 engine and expertly designed chassis to offer a truly luxurious driving experience for performance-minded drivers. Beyond a vast selection of luxury coupes, sedans and SUVs, AMG® makes the Mercedes-AMG® GT3 and Mercedes-AMG® GT4 race cars.

An AMG® engine is unlike any other, which is what makes it truly stand out. The latest AMG® V8 engines have two turbochargers inside the valley between the engine banks, which is known as a “hot inside V.” Because the eight-cylinder engine is more compact, it allows for a low installation position and optimal weight distribution between the front and rear axles.

The exhaust side of the turbochargers stays hotter when inside the V, so the engine has less lag and turbos stay on boost. The electronically-regulated blow-off valves deliver an immediate response, giving a maximum charge pressure of 1.2 bar and a maximum speed of 186,000 rpm. The dry-sump lubrication enables the engine to be installed in a low position with a lower center of gravity—the ideal placement for a sports car with extremely high lateral dynamics.
